He was the first person to earn a Master of Music in Carillon Performance from the University of Michigan. He later studied at the Royal Carillon School in Belgium as a fellow of the Belgian-American Educational Foundation\, graduating with distinction. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Organ Performance from the University of Missouri—Kansas City\, and during the COVID-19 pandemic\, he completed a degree in Speech-Language Pathology with a focus on voice disorders. \nChesman has dedicated his career to a deep study of music and its many dimensions. His pedagogical research led to the publication of “Making Music on the Carillon” and two recordings for Alfred Music of the music for the “Suzuki Organ School”\, Volumes 7 and 8. He has presented invited masterclasses at institutions such as Yale University\, the University of Michigan and the University of Texas. As a speech-language pathologist\, he has presented research on the aging voice\, caring for vocal performers and laryngeal health. He performs regularly on organ\, carillon and harp across the United States and internationally in Australia\, Canada\, France\, Belgium\, Sweden\, Portugal and the Netherlands. He is happiest making music on Sunday mornings with his faith community at St. James Episcopal Church\, Springfield\, Mo.\, where he seeks to use music as a glimpse of the divine. \n\n\n	\n\n\n\n

Passionate about using bells for social good\, he specializes in performing works by diverse artists and integrating carillon music into daily campus life. \nPreviously\, Landry served as carillonist of Grosse Pointe Memorial Church in Michigan and held fellowships at Bok Tower Gardens\, Florida\, and the Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon\, Illinois. He holds a master’s degree in carillon performance from the University of Michigan\, where he studied with Drs. Tiffany Ng and Pamela Ruiter-Feenstra; a diploma from the Royal Carillon School in Belgium\, where he studied on a Fulbright scholarship; and a B.A. in music studies from Principia College. Landry is an active recitalist in North America and Europe (Belgium\, the Netherlands and Lithuania). Hart (1895–1943)\n\n\n\n  \nAbout the carillonneur:\n\n\n\nToni Raats\, born in 1960 and raised in Roosendaal\, the Netherlands\, studied carillon in Mechelen\, Belgium\, with Carlo van Ulft\, Jo Haazen\, Eddy Mariën and Geert D’Hollander. Since 1998\, he has performed annually in the Netherlands and Belgium\, toured North America in 2012\, played in Portugal in 2023 and now freelances in Halsteren. \nRaats has served as city carillonneur of Roosendaal since 2010. He plays weekly during the market\, offers six summer concerts and shares performances worldwide via the YouTube channel carillonsintjanroosendaal. His goal is to bring the bells closer to the people. \nRaats is organist for the St. Alfonsus Choir and the cantors at Our Lady’s Church in Roosendaal. He also accompanies soloists\, the women’s ensemble Vivace and plays piano with the Delta Quintet and Serenado Trio. \nOn his mother’s side (Family Los)\, Raats is the third generation of musicians named Antony — Toon or Toni. In Dutch\, the word “toon” means “note” or “tone.” \nOutside of music\, Raats works as a coach and company social worker\, supporting people through conflict\, trauma\, stress\, burnout and change. He sees strong parallels with music — both involve rhythm\, improvisation\, structure\, intonation and\, above all\, listening well to foster solutions. \n\n\n	\n\n\n\n

Carlo van Ulft\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Carillonneur\nWade FitzGerald earned a Master of Music in organ performance in May 2024 at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington\, Ind.\, where he studied with Dr. Christopher Young while also serving as the university carillonist and associate instructor of carillon from 2022-24. A native of Tampa\, Fla.\, FitzGerald started piano lessons at age 5. He enrolled at the University of Florida (UF) in 2015 and began studying the carillon with Dr. Laura Ellis the following year. During college\, he worked as a substitute pianist at several churches and as an accompanist for the Gainesville Youth Chorus. FitzGerald was inducted into the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America in 2019 and graduated from UF shortly thereafter with bachelor’s degrees in music and biology. In 2020\, FitzGerald served for five months as Blanchard Carillon Fellow at Bok Tower in Lake Wales\, Fla.\, where he studied with award-winning carillonneur and composer Geert D’hollander. In 2021\, FitzGerald moved to Pennsylvania\, where he began playing the carillon and studying organ with Jeffrey Brillhart at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. Outside of his studies\, FitzGerald enjoys hiking\, nature photography\, reading (particularly cosmic horror)\, catching snakes and learning languages.

In 1986\, he passed the carillonneur’s exam in Ottawa\, Canada. He played the two carillons in Bloomington\, Ind.\, for seven years\, then moved to Chicago\, Ill.\, in 1993\, where he became the assistant/associate carillonneur at the Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. He is now a cancer researcher and associate professor of biological sciences at Benedictine University and performs carillon recitals throughout the United States. Additionally\, he is the carillonneur at St. Chrysostom’s Church in Chicago and serves on the carillon performance team for the Naperville Park District. As a member of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA)\, Fackenthal has served in several capacities\, including examination juror\, board member\, Associate Carillonneur Exam Committee chair and co-editor of the newsletter “Carillon News.”\n

He has held that position for 32 years. Widmann graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and completed a Master of Music from Towson University in 2011. He earned his diploma\, “met Onderscheding” (cum laude) at the Royal Carillon School “Jef Denyn” in Mechelen\, Belgium (2021-22). He retired two years ago from Frederick County Public Schools where he was a general/vocal music teacher. He also is the organist and choirmaster at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Potomac\, Md. Widmann became a carillonneur member of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America in 1996 and is a former member of the national board for that organization. He maintains an active concert schedule\, plays frequently throughout the United States and also gives recitals in Belgium\, France\, Germany\, Switzerland\, Spain\, Portugal\, the Netherlands\, England\, Canada and the Netherlands Antilles. He lives in Frederick with his wife and\, sometimes\, their two grown children.\n

In 2005\, he obtained a master’s degree at the Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort where he studied with Arie Abbenes and Bernard Winsemius. He then took master classes in interpretation from Geert D’hollander and inspirational lessons in improvisation from Roel Smit. He also studied music education at the Utrecht Conservatory and had organ lessons from Nico Poorter and Wout van Andel. Ruitenbeek worked for many years as a music teacher and choral conductor. He is regular player of the unique glass carillon in Leidsche Rijn in Utrecht\, the Netherlands\, and also plays the carillonneur in the cities of Harderwijk\, Hilversum\, Nijkerk\, Tiel and Velsen\, the Netherlands.

DESCRIPTION:Linda Dzuris\n\n\n\nLinda Dzuris became the first carillonneur for Clemson University (1999)\, S.C.\, where she also serves as the chair of the Department of Performing Arts. She is a North American Carillon School performance instructor and American representative of the Royal Carillon School “Jef Denyn’”’ in Mechelen\, Belgium. She received her Bachelor of Music\, Master of Music and Doctor of Music Arts degrees in organ performance and church music\, studying with James Kibbie at the University of Michigan. She also has studied at The Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort\, Netherlands. Dzuris is the vice president of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA) and has been a featured guest artist in carillon concert series throughout the United States and Europe.
