Concordia Seminary Names Andrew Bartelt Vice President for Academic Affairs
Concordia Seminary has named Dr. Andrew Bartelt as Vice President for Academic Affairs. In this new position, Bartelt will be the chief academic/instructional officer providing leadership and oversight for all Seminary academic programs. He also will serve as Executive Assistant to the President. Bartelt, a member of the Seminary's faculty since 1978, had been serving as the Dean of Administration and Assistant to the President.
As Vice President for Academic Affairs, Bartelt will assume the responsibilities of the former Dean of Faculty position, most recently held by Dr. Jacob Preus III, who will be leaving the Seminary to serve as the third President of Concordia University, Irvine. Some of the functions of the former Dean of Administration position have been shifted to the new Vice President for Administrative Services, providing for a more efficient streamlining of administrative structure.
"The chief benefit of this new arrangement is the consolidation of all academic administration into one central office," said Dr. John F. Johnson, President of Concordia Seminary. "I am confident that Dr. Bartelt will ably serve in this position. He is a gifted teacher and scholar who knows the Seminary and its faculty and who is committed to maintaining the highest academic standards in preparing pastors of the church."
"I'm looking forward to serving our faculty and students in this new capacity as together we serve our church and world with the message of God's presence and grace in Christ Jesus," said Dr. Andrew Bartelt.
