Rev. Dr. Richard J. Schultz Is Called to Glory
Rev. Dr. Richard J. Schultz, professor emeritus at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, died on Friday, Jan. 26, at the age of 80. The funeral service will take place Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 10 a.m. at the Laclede Groves Chapel, 723 South Laclede Station Road. Visitation will be available at the Math Hermann and Son Chapel, 10212 Halls Ferry Road on Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 4 – 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 9 – 10 a.m. at the Laclede Groves Chapel.
Schultz was born January 31, 1920, at Royalton Township, New York. He received his M.Div. (1945) and D.D. (1970) from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He received an M.Ed. degree (1968) from the University of Illinois-Champaign.
Schultz served as missionary-at-large for the English District of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS; 1945-47), pastor of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Marysville, Mich. (1947-53), St. John’s Lutheran Church, Orchard Park, N.Y. (1953-62), executive secretary of parish education for the Eastern District (LCMS; 1962-65), professor of Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, Ill. (1965-70), president of Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, Ill. (1970-74), pastor of Village Lutheran Church, Forked River, N.J. (1974-76), professor at Concordia Seminary (1976-87), professor emeritus at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis (1987- present) and associate pastor at Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church, St. Louis, Mo. (1977 – present).
Memorial offerings may be made to Chapel of the Cross Lutheran Church, St. Louis, or the Lutheran Convalescent Home, Webster Groves, Mo.
