Bartelt Convocation Lecture Available

The 2001-2002 series of convocations held on the campus of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis began on Wednesday, Oct. 3 with an address by Dr. Andrew Bartelt, professor of exegetical theology and vice president for academic affairs at Concordia. The address was titled, "The Pastor's Head and the Pastor's Heart." It stressed that both theological knowledge (pastor's head) and compassionate application of the truths of God's Word (pastor's heart) are essential for faithful and effective pastoral ministry.

This address is available in Real Audio® format on the Seminary's Web site for on-line listening or downloading to enable off-line listening. The Web address is www.csl.edu/convocat.

"Although it is addressed to Seminary students and professors, this convocation address has much to say to those who are serving as pastors currently, those who are contemplating preparation for the pastoral ministry and those who are on the receiving end of a pastor's care," commented Rev. Glen Thomas, vice president for seminary relations at Concordia Seminary. "It serves to stimulate thinking and reflection upon just what seminary formation is all about and what it is designed to accomplish."

Each Wednesday, no classes are scheduled on the Concordia Seminary, St. Louis campus from the time the daily chapel service concludes (approx. 10:30 a.m.) until 12:30 p.m. On many Wednesdays, special guest speakers are invited to address the Seminary community in hour-long convocations. The goal of all convocations is to inform and to inspire further thought, study, reflection, and discussion between faculty, students and others in the Seminary community.
