Concordia Seminary’s Institute for Mission Studies and the Lutheran Society for Missiology invite students, faculty and the general public to a lecture by Dr. Henry Rowold, mission professor of practical theology at Concordia Seminary. Rowold will speak on the witness to the Gospel through the mission work of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) in China on Thursday, March 17, at 7:00 p.m. in the Seminary Library.

The lecture will mark the closing of the exhibit, “Distant Neighbors, Unknown Friends: The People of China’s Yangtze River,” a collection of photographs shot by LCMS member Clark Everett. Everett took the pictures during a 14-month stay in China while he taught English there. The exhibit, on display at the Seminary since late January, offers glimpses of life in central China. Visitors are welcome to view the exhibit during the Library’s regular hours.

Rowold has served in Concordia Seminary’s Institute for Mission Studies since 1995. His duties include not only instruction on the Seminary campus but also providing continuing education and university and seminary courses in East Asia for three to four months each year. Before joining the Seminary faculty as deployed staff of LCMS World Mission, Rowold and his wife, Phyllis, had served with LCMS World Mission in evangelistic outreach in Taiwan (1965-1984). After activities in mission planning and research for Southeast Asia (1984-1987), Rowold became director of the China Coordinating Center in Hong Kong (1987-1995).
