The inauguration of Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer as the 10th president of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, was held on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m., in the Seminary’s Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus. The inauguration occurred in conjunction with the Seminary’s 16th Annual Theological Symposium, allowing many pastors, Concordia University System faculty members and students, and other Symposium guests the opportunity to attend.

The inauguration included an address by Dr. Meyer outlining his vision for the Seminary’s future. The theme of his address was taken from Luke 22:24-27. “Let us be among one another as the One who serves,” Meyer said. In his address, he outlined what is fundamental to the existence and mission of Concordia Seminary: “Through Concordia Seminary the Spirit of God and of our Lord Jesus Christ, which reached us in our Baptism, continues on His mission to reclaim this world.”

“At Concordia Seminary we will strive to form pastors and deaconesses, missionaries and leaders to extend the Good Shepherd’s mission of pastoral care and cure to people within and without the church,” Meyer commented. “It’s a great time to be at Concordia Seminary and that’s because Concordia Seminary is all about the Lord Jesus Christ.”

An additional component of the inaugural festivities will be a special Bach at the Sem sacred concert on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7:00 p.m. in The Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus. Special selections from Bach’s works are being chosen by Robert Bergt, director of the American Kantorei, to express the spirit of prayer and thanksgiving that accompanies the installation of a new Seminary president. There is no charge to attend this sacred concert and no tickets are issued.

Meyer’s installation as president took place on Sunday, Sept. 4 during the worship service that opened the Seminary’s 167th academic year. He succeeds the Rev. Dr. John F. Johnson who accepted a call to serve as president of Concordia University, River Forest, Ill., in November 2004.
