Concordia Seminary Announces LutherHostel 2006
“Living Well in Christ” is the theme for LutherHostel 2006 to be held October 7-10, 2006 on the campus of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. LutherHostel is an educational event for adults, age 55 and above. It provides an opportunity for participants to experience spiritual, intellectual and social growth while enjoying the tranquil surroundings of the Seminary campus.
Dr. Richard Bimler, president of Wheat Ridge Ministries, Itasca, Ill., will be the main presenter for the event. Bimler received the B.A. degree (1963) from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind., the M.A. degree (1972) from University of Missouri, Kansas City, Mo., the Litt.D. degree (1988) from Concordia University, Irvine, Calif., and the L.H.D. degree (1998) from Concordia College, Bronxville, N.Y. He has served The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) in various positions for over 40 years, and has served in his current position since 1991. He will assume new responsibilities within Wheat Ridge Ministries in March 2006. Bimler’s work has taken him to such places as Nigeria, Budapest, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, China, Hong Kong, India, Philippines, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Venezuela, Guatemala, Korea, Canada and the Middle-East.
Scheduled activities for LutherHostel 2006 will feature a reception and dinner with President and Mrs. Dale A. Meyer. Other activities include presentations by Martin Noland, director of Concordia Historical Institute, and Marge Schramm, former mayor of Kirkwood, Mo. (a suburb of St. Louis), Bible studies led by Seminary faculty Thomas Egger and David Lewis, class visitation, student-led evening devotions, opportunities for informal interaction with faculty, a private demonstration of the organ at The Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus, and a tour of selected St. Louis area sites. An optional tour of Lutheran historical sites in Perry County, Mo., also is available on Oct. 11, immediately following LutherHostel.
The LutherHostel fee is $310 per person, which includes all meals and refreshments for the event. Housing is available on campus (on a limited basis for an additional cost) or in nearby hotels.
Dr. Paul L. Maier, noted Lutheran scholar and author, will be the presenter for LutherHostel 2007, which will be held Oct. 6-9, 2007.
