Roberto F. González Called to Glory
Dr. Roberto (Bob) F. González, 61, former faculty member at Concordia Seminary’s Hispanic Institute of Theology, died March 6 from a massive heart attack.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Irving, Texas. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. the previous evening, March 12, at Donnelly Colonial Funeral Home in Irving.
González served as a faculty member at Concordia Seminary’s Hispanic Institute of Theology in Chicago from 1987 until he moved to St. Louis in the 1990s to serve as national counselor for Hispanic ministries for the LCMS Board for Mission Services. He also worked as a missionary to Puerto Rico and most recently as pastor for Hispanic ministries at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Irving, Texas. He is survived by his wife Susan and their three daughters, Elizabeth, Suzanne and Debbie.
“Even as we grieve with Susan, Elizabeth, Suzanne, Debbie, and many others who came to know Roberto, we also have the sure confidence of the resurrection from the dead and look forward to a happy reunion with our sainted brother in the glorious presence of the Lamb,” said Dr. Leopoldo Sánchez, director of the Center for Hispanic Studies at Concordia Seminary. “We give thanks to our gracious God and Father for the faithful ministry of our dear brother Bob González to Concordia Seminary, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) and our Hispanic/Latino brothers and sisters across the nation and overseas.”
