Walther Bicentennial Celebration Announced at Concordia Seminary
On October 25, 2011, Concordia Seminary will be celebrating the 200th birthday of Dr. C.F.W. Walther, one of the founders of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and its first president, and a professor at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Throughout the day, many events are scheduled to honor his legacy. This celebration is a collaboration with the 23rd annual Walther Round Table, which meets on the campus of Concordia Seminary annually.
The schedule for October 25 is as follows:
10:30-11:00 a.m. | Viewing of Walther Bicentennial exhibits in Concordia Historical Institute on the Seminary campus (804 Seminary Place, Clayton, Mo.) |
11:10 a.m. | Chapel Service commemorating Dr. Walther in the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus |
11:45-1:00 p.m. | Lunch (on your own at an area restaurant of your choice) |
1:00-3:30 p.m. | Tour of Historic Trinity Lutheran Church in Soulard and the Walther Mausoleum in Concordia Cemetery (reservations required). The bus leaves campus at 1:00 p.m. |
3:45-5:45 p.m. | "Walther" movie in Werner Auditorium |
5:45-7:00 p.m. | Dinner (on your own at an area restaurant of your choice) |
7:00-8:45 p.m. | Evening program in Werner Auditorium |
8:45 p.m. | Birthday cake in the President’s Room |
The evening program will include presentations by Dr. Dale A. Meyer, president of Concordia Seminary, and Rev. Matthew Harrison, president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. In addition, the Concordia Seminary Chorus will sing a few of Dr. Walther’s favorite hymns in German and in English.
All of the events, with the exception of the bus tour, are free and open to the public. The bus tour is $15 per person and reservations must be made by October 21. Please fill out the registration form and return to Concordia Seminary.
