Soccer and basketball coaches’ notebooks

Here’s some news from our soccer and basketball coaches about the 2016 season.

alumni-soccerFrom Preachers soccer Coach Rev. Kou Seying: Concordia Seminary’s 2016 soccer season ended Oct. 26 in a hard fought match against St. Louis School of Pharmacy, with the team losing 7-2. As their head coach, I am very proud of these men. We were outnumbered and skilled by our opponents this season.

Yet, our Preachers gave everything they had on the field showing their true servant hearts in each and every match. Even though we did not bring any trophy home this season, the men played tactically well against younger and more skilled players. But most importantly, they had fun.

The Preachers lost 3-2 in a hard fought match against Kenrick Seminary in the Nicea Cup Oct. 21, but it was the best match of the season. Even though the Preachers were outmatched, the team played tactically well and the match could have gone either way.

The team lost 5-0 to the Yellow Mosquitoes Oct. 17 and lost 4-1 to Covenant Seminary in the Whitteneva Cup Oct. 7.

From Preachers basketball Coach Dr. Timothy Saleska:
The Preachers fell in their season opener 104-29 to an excellent Morthland College team Oct. 24. Morthland is a nondenominational Christian school in West Frankfort, Ill.

The Preachers played with a lot of enthusiasm. They kept a very positive attitude and continued to play as hard as they could throughout the game. For many of the players, it was the first time they had played an organized basketball game since high school.

The team enjoyed the initial experience. They are still getting to know one another, and as one player said, “We can only go up from here.”

The Preachers play St. Louis College of Pharmacy at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 and would love to have everyone come out and support the team.
