Christus Vivit Award Honoree Mary Ellen Peck enters rest

We pray for God’s peace and comfort for the family of Mary Ellen Peck, who went to sleep in Jesus Sunday, Dec. 18. Mary Ellen and her husband, Peter, received the Seminary’s Christus Vivit Award at Commencement in May for their exemplary service to the church.

The Pecks have been vigorous supporters of the Seminary, especially its Food Bank, which provides groceries and other household items free of charge to students.

Mrs. Peck grew up in St. Louis and is a graduate of the former Lutheran Central High School. As teenagers, the Pecks spent time on the Seminary campus, interacting with the children of professors and attending basketball games and other events. The Pecks, who were married 59 years, have supported the Seminary in numerous capacities throughout their adult lives.

The Pecks are well-known for making the holiday season a little brighter for Seminary families. For several years, the Pecks have purchased ingredients for Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas goodies, delivering them to campus for students and their families to enjoy.

You can read more about the Pecks here from our Commencement program: https://stg.csl.matchbox.host/commencement/.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Des Peres, Mo. Schrader Funeral Home in Ballwin, Mo., is handling arrangements.

Heavenly Father, into whose keeping we entrust our loved ones, help us to look to You in our time of sorrow, remembering the cloud of faithful witnesses with which we are surrounded. Grant that we may one day share in the joys of those who now rest in Your presence; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
