Fall Lay Bible Institute explores ‘Jesus in Islam’

“Jesus in Islam” is the focus of Concordia Seminary’s Oct. 5 Fall Lay Bible Institute. Associate Professor of Practical Theology Dr. Abjar Bahkou will examine the similarities and differences between Islam and Christianity with the goal of helping participants become better equipped to share Christ with their Muslim neighbors.

Open to lay people, students, pastors and others interested in the proclamation of the Gospel, the Fall Lay Bible Institute will look at the stories the Koran uses that are the same in the Gospel’s story; examine why the Koran denies the Crucifixion and considers the Trinity blasphemy; and explore ways to share the divinity of Christ and the mystery of the Holy Trinity with Muslims.

“This Lay Bible Institute is an opportunity to be equipped to proclaim the Jesus of the Gospel, as opposed to the Jesus of the Koran, with Muslims,” Bahkou said.

The one-day workshop will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Sieck Hall 202 on campus, 801 Seminary Place, St. Louis, MO 63105. The registration deadline is Sept. 20. Cost is $20 per person.

Register online or for more information contact Continuing Education at 314-505-7286 or ce@csl.edu.

The Lay Bible Institute, offered three times a year by Concordia Seminary faculty members, is an ongoing study of the Bible and how it relates to today’s life and events.
