Dedication service set for new chapel stained glass windows
Divine Service, blessing set for Nov. 2
A special service has been set to dedicate and bless the new stained glass windows in the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus.
The public is invited to attend the “Divine Service with Dedication and Blessing of the Stained Glass Windows” at 10 a.m. CT Wednesday, Nov. 2, in chapel on the campus of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, 801 Seminary Place, St. Louis, MO 63105.
The service will include a blessing of the windows and distribution of Holy Communion. Professor of Practical Theology Dr. David Schmitt, a member of the stained glass committee that oversaw the design and installation of the windows, will preach and the Seminary’s premier choir, Laudamus, will sing.
Thanks to a generous gift from the Eugene E. and Nell S. Fincke Memorial Trust, stained glass windows have been installed throughout the entirety of the chapel — chancel, transepts, nave and narthex — between 2020 and 2022. The windows use the Te Deum Laudamus (We Praise You, O God), a historic text of praise to God, as a thematic touchpoint, and depict the crucifixion, resurrection and exaltation of Jesus Christ. Lynchburg Stained Glass of Lynchburg, Va., with senior artist Rich Buswell in charge of the design, installed the windows.
“These stained glass windows place the King of Glory, Jesus Christ, at the center of campus worship and the daily formation of men and women for service in the church,” said Dr. Kent Burreson, chairman of the stained glass committee and the Louis A. Fincke and Anna B. Shine Professor of Systematic Theology. “We are thankful for Eugene and Nell Fincke’s witness to Christ during their earthly lives, a witness that now proclaims the One who opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers through the gift of these windows. Our prayer is that this Seminary community always will acknowledge along with these windows the God of Jesus Christ to be the Lord.”
The public is invited to attend the service in-person or watch via live stream at csl.edu/live.
