Statement on death of Regent Dr. John Wille
Today, on behalf of the entire Concordia Seminary, St. Louis campus community, President Dr. Thomas J. Egger and Chairman of the Board of Regents Rev. W. Max Mons offered the following statement on the death yesterday of Board of Regents’ member Dr. John C. Wille:
“The administration and members of the Board of Regents are deeply saddened at the death of our friend and colleague, Dr. John C. Wille, president of the LCMS South Wisconsin District.
“Since 2015, John has served on our Board of Regents as the LCMS Council of Presidents’ representative. In this role, he served as a member of several committees, including Governance and Audit.
“John was a dear brother in Christ, who loved his Lord, the Lord’s church and Concordia Seminary. He was a faithful proclaimer of Jesus Christ crucified and risen for our salvation. He worked tirelessly to bring glory to God and the gifts of God to people.
“We miss our brother John. We give thanks to God for him and for the sure and certain hope of the resurrection. We do not grieve as the world does, ‘For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep’ (1 Thess. 4:14).”
The funeral service for Wille will be held at 11 a.m. June 18 in the Chapel of Christ Triumphant on the campus of Concordia University, 12800 N. Lake Shore Dr, Mequon, Wis. Brothers in the ministry in attendance are welcome to vest (in red) and be prepared to process in.
A private family interment will take place in Watertown, Wis., following the service.
