Dear alumni

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12 ESV).

We have celebrated Jesus’ birth. We now celebrate that His birth, His life, His death and His resurrection are for the whole world.

The Epiphany season highlights God’s love for His whole creation. Christ’s saving work extends to people of every race, tribe, language and nation. As Paul reminds us in Romans 3, both Jew and Gentile (which means everybody) are guilty of sin, and therefore are the ones for whom Christ came. Jesus came to save sinners. And His salvation — that is, the forgiveness of sins and eternal life with God — is given freely to all who trust in Him. Both Jew and Gentile. There is no distinction. Christ has redeemed us all through His blood.

Everything we do at Concordia Seminary we do because of this Good News. Because Jesus is the light of the world. Because Jesus alone gives the light of eternal life. Because Jesus alone is the Savior for all the world.

Thank you for all that you do to bring Christ’s light into the lives of those around you. Each day through this season of Epiphany, share this Good News with someone who needs to hear it. God loves them and gave His only Son to take away their darkness and to bring them into His marvelous light.

In Christ’s love,

Thomas J. Egger
