Christian Islamic scholar’s lecture on the end times views of ISIS/ISIL will be streamed live

The Ethnic Immigrant Institute of Theology (EIIT) at Concordia Seminary is hosting a lecture Oct. 23 by Timothy Furnish, a Christian scholar of Islamic history, entitled "Fighting for the End of the (Christian) World." Furnish will discuss how Islamic history and doctrine have shaped the end times views of Muslim groups such as ISIS/ISIL and what that means to the Christian Church.

“Gaining an understanding of the ISIS phenomenon through the lens of a scholar is critical to mitigating legitimate fears,” says the Rev. Dr. John Loum, director of the EIIT program. “With an informed understanding, we can engage and share with Muslims our faith in the life and salvation we have in Christ.”

Furnish holds a Ph.D. in Islamic History from The Ohio State University, with a specialization in Islamic Messianic movements, as well as a M.A.R. from Concordia Seminary. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and currently works as a writer, blogger and consultant to the U.S. military and intelligence community.

The EIIT is the seminary’s specialized program of theological education and formation for effective pastoral leadership within immigrant-based LCMS churches. Click here for more information about the EIIT program.

This free lecture is open to the public and will start at 4:15 p.m. in Werner Auditorium, on the grounds of Concordia Seminary, located at 801 Seminary Place, St. Louis, Missouri, 63105. A reception will follow.
