Concordia Seminary Invites All Alumni(ae) to First Annual Homecoming

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis alumni(ae) from all graduating classes are invited and encouraged to return to the Seminary campus and participate in the Seminary’s first-ever Alumni Homecoming on Monday, Sept. 17.

Activities for the Homecoming begin with registration in the Seminary’s Welcome Center at 8:30 a.m., and also include the Seminary’s daily chapel service at 9:40 a.m., time with Dr. Dale Meyer, president of Concordia Seminary, a tour of the Seminary’s new education technology facilities, including a demonstration of the Seminary’s online theological resources, an opportunity to attend a class, and a reception with the faculty at 4:30 p.m. Forty half-price tickets to the evening St. Louis Cardinals baseball game are also available on a first-paid, first-reserved basis, with a limit of two tickets per guest.

“With the Martin Franzmann hymn festival on the evening of Sunday, Sept. 16 and the Theological Symposium beginning Tuesday, Sept. 18, we want to offer a day in between for alumni(ae) from all graduating years to reconnect with one another and with their alma mater,” said Rev. Glen Thomas, acting director of alumni relations.

During the same time frame on Sept. 17, the Seminary’s annual Day of Exegetical Reflection will be conducted. It will feature papers by Profs. Jeffrey Gibbs, Jeffrey Kloha, R. Reed Lessing, William Carr, David Adams, David Lewis, Bruce Schuchard, Timothy Saleska and James Voelz. This year’s theme is “Current Trends in Biblical Studies,” and the day’s activities will conclude with the same reception at 4:30 p.m.

“We really have two different schedule tracks running on Sept. 17, one for the Homecoming activities and one for the Day of Exegetical Reflection activities,” stated Thomas. “Since the tracks share a common starting point, our daily chapel service, and a common ending point, the reception with our faculty, our alumni(ae) can attend all activities in one track, or they can alternate between activities in both tracks. Still others may wish to attend some of the scheduled activities, and then enjoy a round of golf.”

A mailing was sent to all Concordia Seminary alumni(ae) on July 31. A copy of the materials included in the mailing is available on the Seminary’s Web site in PDF format at https://stg.csl.matchbox.host/Alumni_Homecoming.aspx.

Alumni(ae) planning to participate in the Homecoming or the Day of Exegetical Reflection activities are asked to register, utilizing the registration form included in the mailing or available online. This will assist in providing the Seminary with an estimate of how many participants to expect.

There is no cost to attend the Homecoming or the Day of Exegetical Reflection, and participants are responsible for their own lodging and meal costs. Full food service is available on campus on a pay-as-you-go basis, and participants should make their own lodging arrangements. Suggestions for area hotels and golf courses are included in the mailing and online information.
