Laudamus choir fall tour celebrates Reformation anniversary

Performances in Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and Missouri

Laudamus, a select choir of seminarians preparing for service as Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) pastors, will bring music celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Reformation to five LCMS churches and schools in four states in October as part of its fall tour.

The choir name comes from the Latin Laudamus te, which means “we praise.”

“The music will be a beautiful balance of excellent choral literature, along with a number of hymn settings that enable us to make music with the attending audiences and congregations,” said Dr. James Marriott, the Kreft Chair for Music Arts and director of musical arts at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, home of the Laudamus choir.

The choir’s fall tour includes worship services and performances:

Friday, Oct. 13, 7 p.m., St. John’s Lutheran Church and School, Mattoon, Ill.
Saturday, Oct. 14, 7 p.m., Our Savior Lutheran Church and School, Louisville, Ky.
Sunday, Oct. 15, 8:30 a.m., Our Savior Lutheran Church and School, Louisville, Ky.
Sunday, Oct. 15, 7 p.m., Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, Loudon, Tenn.
Monday, Oct. 16, 6:30 p.m., St. Paul Lutheran Church and School, Jackson, Mo.

Featured composers include Bruckner, Faure, Rene Clausen and Josquin Des Pres (a significant musical influence on Martin Luther), among others. A member of the Seminary’s admissions team will be available at each performance to talk with prospective students and anyone interested in church work opportunities and answer questions about the Seminary.

Also in the works is a Laudamus spring tour in 2018. “Those performances, to be announced at a later date, will allow the choir to travel two different directions in the same academic year, which gives us the opportunity to serve and collaborate with more congregations than we have in past touring years,” Marriott said.

The choir’s 2016-17 tour included stops in Colorado, New Mexico, Nebraska and Missouri. In addition to performing, these future pastors had the opportunity to visit congregations doing unique ministry activities.
