2021-22 Concordia Seminary Concert Series schedule announced

Hymn festivals, premier concerts among offerings

A full schedule for the 2021-22 season has been announced for the annual Concordia Seminary Concert Series, a highlight of the Concordia Seminary, St. Louis yearly events calendar. The many musical performances provide prime opportunities for the public to come and enjoy the Seminary’s beautiful campus, including the intricate new stained glass windows in the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus.

“Music is a tremendous gift from our loving God, and the Concordia Seminary Concert Series is a tremendous gift to our campus community and surrounding neighbors,” said Director of Music Arts Dr. James Marriott. “We are delighted to welcome our talented performers as well as our supportive audiences!”

Kicking off the season this year is the Opening Weekend Hymn Festival, which will be held at 3 p.m. CT Sunday, Aug. 29, in the chapel, located in the center of the Seminary campus.

Other scheduled events include:

  • After Chapel Concerts, which are mini concerts featuring musicians from within and beyond the Seminary community sharing their musical talents. Recitals are held in the chapel directly following morning chapel services, from 9:55 to 10:15 a.m. CT.
  • Summer Carillon Concerts, which feature national and international carillonneurs who perform on the Seminary’s carillon in Luther Tower. The concerts are held at 7 p.m. CT Tuesdays in June.
  • Premier Concerts, which are held in the chapel throughout the year, featuring visiting choral groups and performers of the highest acclaim such as the Bach Society of St. Louis.
  • Hymn Festivals, which are held seasonally throughout the year in the chapel.

New this year will be musical offerings by Blake Flattley, a Lutheran songwriter. He will have several pieces available for download on the Seminary’s website later in the season. The release of these songs will be in conjunction with the Seminary’s annual Theological Symposium.

“Each of these performances offer moments of peace in our busy lives and nourishment to our hearts and minds with God’s gift of beautiful music,” said Seminary President Dr. Thomas J. Egger. “Concordia Seminary is honored to be a member of the St. Louis metropolitan community, and we are glad to welcome you to campus!”
