Commencement exercises planned at Concordia Seminary
184th academic year comes to a close
Owing to forecasted inclement weather, tonight’s Commencement exercises have been moved indoors to the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus. Start time remains at 7 p.m. CDT. Please join us in person or online at csl.edu/live.
Commencement exercises for the Concordia Seminary, St. Louis 2023 graduating class will take place Friday, May 19. The public is invited to attend.
The day’s events begin at 10 a.m. (CDT) with the Theological Diploma Service in the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus on the Seminary’s campus. Theological diplomas will be presented at this service to all graduating students eligible to receive a call as a pastor or deaconess in The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). Dr. David Adams, professor of Exegetical Theology and the W.G. Ray and Louis J. Rechtzigel Professor of Biblical Studies at Concordia Seminary, will deliver the sermon.
Commencement will take place at 7 p.m. (CDT) outdoors in the Seminary’s Main Quadrangle. Academic degrees and honors will be presented during this ceremony. Rear Adm. Dr. Gregory Todd (’88), who serves as the chief of chaplains in the U.S. Navy, will deliver the Commencement address. Five special honors also will be given:
- Honorary Doctor of Divinity: Rear Adm. Gregory Todd of Washington, D.C.
- Honorary Doctor of Laws: Rev. Raul Blum of São Leopoldo, RS, Brazil
- Distinguished Alumnus: Rev. Bart Day of St. Louis
- Christus Vivit Award: Kaye Wolff of Southfield, Mich.
- Christus Vivit Award: Dr. Beverly Yahnke of Brookfield, Wis.

This year’s graduates will be joining more than 7,000 called leaders of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod around the world and more than 13,000 individuals who have received degrees from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis in the school’s 184-year history.
