Description
The Valparaiso University Chorale will present Soli Deo Gloria — a worshipful concert of anthems, hymns and a cantata by J.S. Bach — at 7 p.m. March 5 in the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus. Brass, string orchestra and featured organist John Schwandt will add inspiring instrumental music to the performance. The program will feature music by Lutheran composers, and the theme unfolds emphasizing the Reformation solas. A special aspect of the concert will be Schwandt’s organ leadership of the assembly in singing hymns such as “Christ is Made the Sure Foundation” and “O Day Full of Grace” as well as recent hymns by Susan Palo Cherwien and Carol McDaniel. The Lutheran High School South Choir will join the Valparaiso University musicians in this event.
The Valparaiso University Chorale is recognized internationally as a premiere Lutheran collegiate choral ensemble, upholding the highest standard of choral art through performance of the greatest literature of all eras. Dedicated to performing works that celebrate the university’s Lutheran heritage, the chorale has been honored to receive several prestigious invitations.
The concert is free and open to the public.
