Rev. Wallace Becker has accepted the divine call issued to him to serve as admissions counselor at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He will join Rev. Jeffery Moore, director of ministerial recruitment, and Rev. Michael Redeker, admission counselor, in the work of identifying, informing and encouraging appropriate candidates for the pastoral ministry in The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He will begin his new responsibilities on April 1.
Becker is a 1973 graduate of Concordia University, Seward, Neb. and served as a director of Christian education at Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, Mich. (1973-80) and First Lutheran Church in Placerville, Calif. (1980-85).
In 1988, Becker received his master of divinity degree at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He served as assistant pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, Ill. (1988-89) and later as its senior pastor (1989-96). Since 1996, he has served as associate pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Springfield, Mo.
“Pastor Becker brings a wealth of parish experience to his new responsibilities in our admissions office,” commented Rev. Glen Thomas, vice president for seminary relations at Concordia Seminary. “He combines a theologian’s mind with a pastor’s heart in dealing with people. We know that those who are considering service in the pastoral ministry are going to find him to be a tremendous resource. We are also happy to note that with the addition of Pastor Becker, our admissions office now has more than 30 years of collective pastoral ministry experience in its admission personnel.”
Becker and his wife, Alvina, are blessed with two children, Jeremy and Andrew. Jeremy serves as a director of Christian education at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, Mo. and Andrew is a student at Concordia University, River Forest, Ill.
