Annual Dellinger Lecture Will Feature Edwin Meese
ormer United States Attorney General Edwin Meese will deliver the seventh annual Hubert L. Dellinger, Jr. Lecture at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. The public is invited to attend his lecture on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Seminary’s Clara and Spencer Werner Auditorium. There is no admission charge and no tickets are issued.
Edwin Meese is Distinguished Fellow at the Heritage Foundation and the Hoover Institution, as well as the author of a nationally syndicated column. He also is the author of the best-selling book With Reagan.
Meese graduated from Yale University in 1953 and holds a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He worked as district attorney of Alameda County, Calif., before serving as California governor Ronald Reagan’s legal affairs secretary (1967-1968) and executive assistant and chief of staff (1969-1974). From 1975-1976, he was vice president for administration of Rohr Industries in Chula Vista, Calif. From 1977-1981, he began a private law practice in San Diego County and served as professor of law at the University of San Diego and the director of the Center for Criminal Justice Policy and Management.
During the Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign, Meese served as chief of staff and senior issues adviser for the Reagan-Bush committee. After Reagan’s election, Meese became counselor to the President and a member of the President’s Cabinet and the National Security Council (1981-1985). Meese served as Attorney General from 1985-1988.
The Hubert L. Dellinger, Jr. Lecture Series, established in 1997, is designed to feature nationally-known speakers who address subjects which intersect the disciplines of theology, sociology, philosophy and law. Previous speakers have included United States Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Prof. Stephen L. Carter of Yale University, William F. Buckley, George Will and television political analyst Tony Snow.
