Rev. Dr. Rudolph H. Harm, a professor at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, from 1975 until his retirement in 1990, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, in St. Clair, Mo. He was 81 years old.

Visitation will be Sunday, Dec. 12, 2:00-7:00 p.m., at Russell Colonial Mortuary, St. Clair, with the funeral service on Monday, Dec. 13, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Union, Mo.

Harm was born Nov. 4, 1923, in New York City, N.Y., to Fredolin and Mary (nee Schreff) Harm. He graduated from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary with the M.Div. degree in 1951. He received the S.T.M. degree from the Biblical Seminary in New York, N.Y., and the Ph.D. degree from New York University.

Prior to joining the Seminary faculty, Harm served as pastor of Community Lutheran Church, South Berlington, Vt.; St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, New Milford, N.J.; and Trinity Lutheran Church, Clifton, N.J. He served as professor and academic dean at Luther College, Teaneck, N.J., from 1965-1975.

Harm served on the Seminary faculty from 1975 until his retirement as professor emeritus in 1989. His contributions included serving as chairman of the department of practical theology (1976-1981), assistant director of placement counseling (1978-1983) and associate professor of practical theology.

He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Dorothy Powell, Gertrude Ficke and Madeline Ehscheid. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth, and daughters Beth Zimmermann (Lawrence), Linda Koeller (Martin) and Robin Reese (Kerry). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his twin brother, Frederick.
