Eight students earn end-of-year scholarships
Eight Concordia Seminary, St. Louis students received end-of-year scholarships, made possible through the generous contributions of individual supporters and Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod congregations across the country.
The recipients were recognized in the Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus this spring:
Professor Francis C. “Rev” Rossow Scholarship for Classes in the Area of Literature and the Gospel: Alex Hoffmeyer, fourth year
The Rev. David V. and Judith Dissen Excellence in the Study of Lutheran Confessions (Book of Concord) Scholarship Fund: Nathan Scheck and Adam Carnehl, 2016 graduates
The Heins-Carr-Luther-Vivit Award: Chris Chandler, 2016 graduate
The Victor C. Rickman Scholarship: Kirk Neugebauer, 2016 graduate
The Baker Book Award: Adam Carnehl, 2016 graduate
The Pamela Anne Prevallet Fund: Timothy Roth (First Place), Aaron Bueltmann (Second Place), Matthew Schiemann (Third Place), 2016 graduates
“These scholarships are such a blessing, coming toward the end of the year when students are settling their final accounts,” said Concordia Seminary Director of Financial Aid Laura Hemmer. “These students were chosen because of their exemplary academic standing or their commitment to a specific area of ministry. We are so proud of these students and their accomplishments, and we are grateful to our generous donors who have made these scholarships available.”
Concordia Seminary is blessed by its donors, many of whom who invest their gifts in permanent funds called endowments. The Seminary currently has more than 500 endowments — many named in honor of esteemed pastors, faculty or family members — that provide financial assistance for student tuition and aid.
The Seminary also is blessed with a cumulative student aid endowment. Anyone may make a gift of any size to the cumulative fund. Collectively, these funds provide the resources for the Seminary to waive a large portion of student tuition expense.
