Sánchez crafts a Spirit Christology in Sculptor Spirit

New title offers five distinct models of sanctification

Dr. Leopoldo A. Sánchez, the Werner R. H. and Elizabeth R. Krause Professor of Hispanic Ministries, Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, recently published Sculptor Spirit: Models of Sanctification from Spirit Christology with InterVarsity Press.

Dr. Leopoldo A. Sánchez M.In his new book, Sánchez carefully crafts a Spirit Christology, which considers the role of God's Spirit in the life and mission of Jesus and leads to five models of sanctification that can help Christians discern how the Spirit is at work in our lives.

"Some Christians, including Lutherans, believe the Holy Spirit is so mysterious there is little one could say concretely about His work of sanctification in our lives," said Sánchez. "I wrote this book to dispel this pious but dangerous myth by showing how the Scriptures, early church fathers, Martin Luther and contemporary theologians offer vivid pictures of what life in the Spirit, or sanctification, looks like."

This work expands on Sánchez's previous dissertation work in the field of Spirit Christology and asks how the theology of sanctification it yields can address the deep spiritual yearnings and hopes of North American neighbors, including millennials and Hispanics.

Sánchez's work on Sculptor Spirit: Models of Sanctification from Spirit Christology was supported by a sabbatical research grant from the Louisville Institute.
