The music for the service has been specifically selected to reflect the season of Advent. The Service of Evening Prayer for Advent begins with the service of light, during which the canticle, “O Gladsome Light, O Grace” by Claude Goudimel, will be featured. Motets focusing on the Advent themes will be sung by the Chorus, while hymn and psalm settings will invite participation by the congregation. A new setting of Psalm 4 by Chorus director Henry V. Gerike will conclude the psalmody. The closing hymn is the Charles Wesley text, “Lo, He Comes with Clouds Descending.”
The touring choir of the Concordia Seminary Chorus consists of students who are preparing to become pastors in The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. They represent a portion of the full Concordia Seminary Chorus, which numbers 100 singers.
