Registration Still Possible for LutherHostel 2000

More than 30 have already registered to participate in “Light for All Ages”, the Oct. 7-10 LutherHostel 2000 to be held on the Concordia Seminary, St. Louis campus. LutherHostel is an educational event for adults, 55 years of age or above, held every year. LutherHostel combines presentations by Seminary faculty, attendance at Seminary classes, topical presentations by local experts and plenty of socialization and fun. This year there also will be tour of the Lutheran historical sites in Perry County, Mo., on Oct. 11 following the LutherHostel.

“We are delighted with the strong registration and we encourage those who would like to participate to register soon,” indicated Dr. John Oberdeck, director of continuing education and parish services at Concordia Seminary. “The ultimate deadline for registration is Sept. 29, but we may reach full-capacity prior to this and need to close registration sooner.”

Rev. Walter Schoedel and his wife, Leota, will be the host couple for LutherHostel 2000. Schoedel is the director of church relations for Lutheran Senior Services in St. Louis, Mo. He also will be the Sunday morning Bible class leader. Rev. Leroy Biesenthal, former executive director of evangelism for The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS), will be the speaker for the Monday evening candlelight dinner. He, along with his wife Marie, will lead activities for participants on Saturday evening. Several faculty members also will be part of the program.

Other speakers at the event will include Mrs. Marty Lintvedt, a member of the Seminary’s counseling services staff, and Rev. Steve Albers, pastor of Glendale Lutheran Church, Glendale Mo. Each of the presenters will add their expertise and unique perspective to the theme of “Light for All Ages.” The event begins on Saturday evening with a western style cookout. Other activities will include a carillon concert, tours of Concordia Historical Institute and KFUO radio station, and student-led evening devotions.
