Dost Accepts Call to Seminary Faculty

Dr. Timothy P. Dost has accepted the divine call issued him to serve as assistant professor of historical theology at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Dost will teach courses in Lutheran Reformation history for those who are preparing to serve as pastors in The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He will be installed during the opening service for the Seminary's 164th academic year on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Dost received his baccalaureate degree from Valparaiso University in 1981 and his master of divinity degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 1985. In December 1997, he was awarded a Ph.D. degree in Reformation and Renaissance history from the University of Southern California.

Dost's parish ministry experience includes service as pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Colton, Calif., from 1985 to 1990 and Concordia Lutheran Church, Inglewood, Calif., from 1990 to 1998. In addition, he served as interim pastor of Peace Lutheran Church, Estacada, Ore., from 1998 to 1999 and most recently as vacancy pastor of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Winona, Minn.

"Dr. Dost will bring to our faculty an academic background across a wide spectrum of historical theology," commented Dr. Andrew Bartelt, vice president for academic affairs at Concordia Seminary. "He also brings a strong sense of confessional integrity, mission outlook and evangelical pastoral care."

With the addition of Dost, the Concordia Seminary faculty now contains 42 full-time professors. More than 80 percent of the faculty members have earned terminal academic degrees in their areas of instruction and the faculty members average more than 10 years of pastoral ministry experience prior to their teaching responsibilities at Concordia Seminary. It's members have authored dozens of books and journal articles in recent years, addressing a wide array of subjects. In addition, they are in demand as speakers at conferences and conventions throughout the world.
